Control The Word
1 Kings 22:5-8 (NIV)
5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah. 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king. 7 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him? 8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
3 Keys To Hearing
★ He speaks
"God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer." - Mother Teresa
★ It's Biblical
2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
★ Confirmed by Holy Spirit
John 14:26 (ESV)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
1 Kings 22:14 (NIV)
And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what Jehovah saith unto me, that will I speak.
Contain the Word
1 Kings 22:27 (KJV)
Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Conceal From the Word
1 Kings 22:30
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle;

1 Kings 22:34 (ESV)
But a certain man drew his bow at random1 and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded.”
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirits, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Acts 16:25-34 (ESV)
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here." And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.

1. As Dad Goes, so Goes the House
v.31 And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
1 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV)
But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.
1 Timothy 5:8 (NIV)
But if any man does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Ephesians 5:22 & 25 (ESV)
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
3. Model Meekness
33And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them.
Proverbs 22:4 (ESV)
The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.
Matthew 11:29 (ESV)
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
4. Party Like it’s 1999
34Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
2 Samuel 23:20-23 (NLT)
There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. Once, armed only with a club, he killed a great Egyptian warrior who was armed with a spear. Benaiah wrenched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with it. Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the Three mightiest warriors. He was more honored than the other members of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. And David made him captain of his bodyguard.
God is in the business of strategically placing his people in the right place at the right time. But the right place often seems like the wrong place and the right time often seems like the wrong time.
2 Samuel 23:23 (NLT)
And David made him captain of his bodyguard.
1 Kings 2:35 (NLT)
Then the king (Solomon) appointed Benaiah to command the army in place of Joab…
God is always using past experiences and our present circumstances to prepare us for future opportunities. But those God-give opportunities will often come disguised as man-eating lions. And how we react when we encounter man-eating lions will determine our destiny.
Chasing Lions
1. Trust God’s Promises
Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Matthew 6:31-33 (NLT)
So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
2. Pray Rediculous Prayers
Matthew 17:20 (The Message)
The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, 'Move!' and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn't be able to tackle.
A low view of God is the cause of a hundred lesser evils. But a person with a “high view” of God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems. (A.W. Tozer)
3. Grab Opportunity by the Mane
Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NLT)
Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.
Don’t let what you can’t do keep you from what you can do.
4. Don’t let mental lions (fear) stop you in your tracks.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Naboth’s Vinyard
Leviticus 25:23 (NIV)
The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers.
Proverbs 28:20 (NIV)
Committed and persistent work pays off; get-rich-quick schemes are ripoffs.
Ahab & Jezebel
✓ Naboth found freedom and joy within the boundaries of the Lord
✓ Ahab found suffering and limitations within the boundaries of the Lord
✓ Jezebel ignored the boundaries of the Lord and killed the faithful and manipulated the unsatisfied
HOW TO BE A MANIPULATOR
❖ Perceived innocence
❖ Appearing strong willed
Proverbs 3:5,6 (KJV)
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
❖ Take want credit for their conquests
❖ Never forget
❖ Use borrowed or stolen authority
❖ Always run in a small posse
❖ Always in the name of good (God)

and arranged her hair—and posed seductively at the window. When Jehu came through the city gate, she called down, "So, how are things, 'Zimri,' you dashing king-killer?" Jehu looked up at the window and called, "Is there anybody up there on my side?" Two or three palace eunuchs looked out. He ordered, "Throw her down!" They threw her out the window. Her blood spattered the wall and the horses, and Jehu trampled her under his horse's hooves. Then Jehu went inside and ate his lunch. During lunch he gave orders, "Take care of that damned woman; give her a decent burial—she is, after all, a king's daughter." They went out to bury her, but there was nothing left of her but skull, feet, and hands. They came back and told Jehu. He said, "It's God's word, the word spoken by Elijah the Tishbite:
“In the field of Jezreel,
dogs will eat Jezebel;
The body of Jezebel will be like
dog-droppings on the ground in Jezreel.
Old friends and lovers will say,
'I wonder, is this Jezebel?'"
Nabal 1 Samuel 25: 10-11 (ESV) And Nabal answered David’s servants, "Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters. Shall I take my bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men who come from I do not know where?" Psalm 119:29 (NLT) Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. Nabal stepped out / acted out, of an internal environment of darkness, causing confusion and pain David 1 Samuel 25:12-13 (NIV) David’s men turned around and went back. When they arrived, they reported every word. David said to his men, "Each of you strap on your sword!" So they did, and David strapped his on as well. About four hundred men went up with David It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their d Hebrews 12:2 (CEB) fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. David stepped out / acted out, from an external environment of disillusionment and hurt causing destruction and pain. Abigail 1 Samuel 25: 18-19 (NIV) Abigail acted quickly. She took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five dressed sheep, five seahs of roasted grain, a hundred cakes of raisins and two hundred cakes of pressed figs, and loaded them on donkeys. Then she told her servants, "Go on ahead; I’ll follow you." But she did not tell her husband Nabal. Abigail stepped out / acted out, proactively in humility and discernment causing peace and divine progress. 1 Samuel 25:23 (NIV) 1 Samuel 25:29 (NIV) 1 Samuel 25:30-31 (NIV) Deuteronomy 32:35 (NIV)

John 14 (English Standard Version)
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
Buddha’s Noble Truths
1. Life is suffering
2. The cause of all suffering is desire
3. The way to end suffering is to end desire
4. Spend your life learning to eliminate desire
Buddha says: Deaden Pain
Jesus says: Deepen desire
1. Life includes suffering, but life is good.
1 Peter 1:3 (New International Version)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Ruth 2:3 (English Standard Version)
So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech.
2. The cause of all suffering is separation.
1 Corinthians 13:11-13 (New International Version)
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
Ruth 2:20 (New International Version)
“The LORD bless him!” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.”
Kindness = hesed = a strongly bonded relationship were one party continues to be faithfully involved with another because it is the character of the party to do so.
Ruth 1:21 (New International Version)
I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.”
When second place desires become first place priorities, our longing for God gets lost.
3. The way to handle suffering is to discover our desire for God
Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
4. The way to walk in Joy is to have the facade of happiness shattered.
